Defining Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is a hydraulic substance that is critical to the function of the brake system. Simply put, without brake fluid, your vehicle will not come to a stop. The braking process can be explained in a number of steps.
1. You press your foot on the pedal
2. The pedal moves brake fluid delivering force to the brake pistons
3. The brake pistons at each brake caliper apply force to the brake pads
4. The brake pads apply pressure to the spinning disc brakes, causing the vehicle to stop

The importance of maintaining the braking system on your vehicle is critical to the life of your brakes. It's also equally important that you put the correct brake fluid in your vehicle, to ensure it functions properly. Flushing your brake system every one to two years, or when needed is a must. At Thompson's Honda, we care about keeping your brakes in the best possible condition.
